Giants 4, Nationals 2 (Game 1)


Joe Panik was 3-for-4 with a walk and drove in two runs and Chris Stratton got his first major league win as a starter as San Francisco won the first game of a day-night doubleheader.


Stratton (1-2), making his third career start, struck out a career-high 10 batters with just one walk while going a career-best 6 2/3 innings without a allowing a run.


Gorkys Hernandez, the No. 8 hitter, had an RBI single in the second, and two batters later Panik lined a single to drive in two runs and give the Giants a 3-0 lead against A.J Cole.


Nationals 6, Giants 2 (Game 2)


Howie Kendrick hit a walk-off grand slam in the 11th inning as Washington defeated San Francisco, earning a split of the doubleheader.


Daniel Murphy (two hits) singled off Albert Suarez to begin the 11th, took third on a bloop single by Ryan Zimmerman (three hits) and then scored the winning run after an intentional walk to Anthony Rendon.


Marlins 5, Rockies 3


Giancarlo Stanton hit his 42nd homer of the season, tying a franchise record and leading the Miami Marlins to a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday afternoon. Miami swept the four-game series.


Stanton, who leads the majors in homers, now shares the Marlins’ single-season record with Gary Sheffield, who set the mark in 1996.


Red Sox 3, Yankees 2 (10 innings)


Rafael Devers hit the game-tying homer off Aroldis Chapman with one out in the ninth inning, and Andrew Benintendi hit a bases-loaded single in the 10th as Boston edged New York


Red Sox starter Chris Sale struck out 12 in seven innings but got a no-decision as Boston won for the second time to cap the three-game series.


Dodgers 6, Padres 4


Justin Turner homered twice and Los Angeles won the rubber game of the three-game series against San Diego.


Turner hit a three-run homer in the five-run fourth inning for the Dodgers and another solo shot in the eighth, the only other inning the Dodgers collected a hit or run.


Braves 6, Cardinals 3


Knuckleballing R.A. Dickey scattered seven hits over seven solid innings as Atlanta snapped St. Louis’ eight-game winning streak.


Dickey (8-7) didn’t give up a run until Carson Kelly singled home Kolten Wong, who tripled, with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Dickey walked two and fanned three.


Indians 4, Rays 3


Austin Jackson hit a solo home run in the eighth inning for Cleveland, which took three of four games from Tampa Bay.


The Indians saw a 3-1 lead disappear on Steven Souza’s two-run home run in the sixth, but Jackson’s fourth home run of the season, off reliever Tommy Hunter (2-3), put Cleveland back ahead.


Blue Jays 7, Pirates 1


Josh Donaldson keyed a five-run first inning with a two-run homer and J.A. Happ struck out eight in six innings as Toronto defeated Pittsburgh.


Darwin Barney and Justin Smoak added solo shots for the Blue Jays and Ryan Goins had a two-run double as the Blue Jays took the rubber match of the three-game interleague series.


Brewers 7, Reds 4


Neil Walker had two hits in his Milwaukee debut and Domingo Santana hit his 19th home run of the season as the Brewers beat Cincinnati.


Acquired from the Mets on Saturday, Walker singled in each of his first two at-bats, and Ryan Braun added a pair of doubles for the Brewers.


Twins 6, Tigers 4


Minnesota matched its 2016 total of 59 wins thanks to Byron Buxton’s tiebreaking single with one out in the eighth inning that keyed a two-run rally.


The Twins recorded their seventh win in eight games.


Royals 14, White Sox 6


Whit Merrifield and Jorge Bonifacio homered to lead Kansas City to the rout of Chicago.


Merrifield drove in five runs and No. 9 batter Drew Butera had a career-high four hits for the Royals, who won two straight to take the three-game series following a five-game losing streak.


Astros 2, Rangers 1


Houston snapped its season-high five-game losing streak and salvaged the final game of their series at Globe Life Park.


Houston and Texas were knotted at one through six innings thanks to solo homers by the Astros’ Jose Altuve and Rangers’ Adrian Beltre, but the Astros pulled in front in the seventh. Yuli Gurriel doubled off of the center-field wall, moved up to third on a groundout and scored on Carlos Beltran’s single to left to put them in front.


Athletics 9, Orioles 3


Kendall Graveman pitched seven strong innings, and Matt Chapman, Matt Joyce and Matt Olson homered, leading the Oakland past Baltimore.


The A’s earned a split in the four-game series, while the Orioles slipped to 2 1/2 games out for the American League’s second wild-card playoff push.


Mets 6, Phillies 2


Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson each hit home runs for New York, which took three of four from Philadelphia.


Conforto’s two-run shot in the first inning opened the scoring and upped his career-high total to 26 for the year. It was his 12th homer since the All-Star break.


Cubs 7, Diamondbacks 2


Javier Baez, Ian Happ and Kris Bryant homered, and Jake Arrieta continued his second-half surge in Chicago’s win.


Baez hit a three-run homer and Happ followed with a pinch-hit homer when the Cubs scored four runs in the eighth inning for a 6-1 lead. Bryant hit a bases-empty homer in the ninth.


Angels 4, Mariners 2


Parker Bridwell pitched six strong innings to avenge his lone major league loss as Los Angeles beat Seattle.


C.J. Cron homered for the Angels, who completed a four-game sweep and moved into sole possession of the AL’s second and final wild-card playoff berth.
