Former Clemson baseball coach Leggett releases statement – WHNS Greenville

CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Clemson University’s director of athletics announced Thursday that the university was parting ways with head baseball coach Jack Leggett.

Leggett led the Tigers’ baseball program for 22 years. Leggett had 955 wins during that time and took the Tigers to the College World Series six times, the last time being in 2010, according to a news release.

“This decision was not an easy one,” said Dan Radakovich, Clemson’s director of athletics. “Jack Leggett has served this institution with distinction for 24 years, the last 22 as head coach. It’s fair to say Clemson baseball has been competitive over the last few years, but our objective is success, defined by competing for ACC Championships and winning in the NCAA Tournament. I have high expectations – and I know our fans and student-athletes have great expectations – for our baseball program.”

Leggett became Clemson’s 26th head baseball coach in 1994.

“Jack has meant so much over the last 22 years as a head coach at Clemson that I could not do justice to his impact on our program,” Radakovich said. “His contributions as an assistant to a Hall of Fame Coach in Bill Wilhelm followed by becoming a Hall of Fame Coach himself speak to his achievements. Many players have been beneficiaries of Jack’s leadership and service, and for that Clemson will always be grateful.”

The search is underway to find Leggett’s replacement, Radakovich said

Clemson finished the 2015 baseball season with a 32-29 overall record.

Leggett released the following statement on Friday:

I would like to thank all of my present and former student-athletes whom I have had the privilege to coach over the past 24 years at Clemson as well as the 14 years prior. I am grateful for their efforts, both on and off the field, and in the classroom. I’m extremely proud to have been their coach and teacher and of all our accomplishments together.

I also want to thank all of my present and former assistant coaches, who have worked so hard and have been so loyal. Many of them have gone on to do great things. I appreciate very much our hard-working and helpful support staff who have been instrumental in helping make our program so respected.

It has been a great pleasure to work alongside so many outstanding coaches and great people who have made a lasting impact on myself as well as Clemson. I truly have met some of the greatest people in my life during my time here as leader of this program.

Thank you to all of the loyal and positive fans for your undying love of the Clemson Baseball program. Your enthusiasm and support will never be forgotten!

For close to a quarter of a century, I put my heart and soul into this baseball program and I wish nothing but continued success to the players, coaches, and Clemson Baseball. I will always cherish my time spent here at Clemson.

Sincerely,

Jack Leggett #7
