Kitten sprints across baseball field, inspires grand slam – UPI.com

Aug. 10 (UPI) — A small kitten had a big impact on a Major League Baseball game after running onto the field on Wednesday night.

FOX Sports Midwest shared a clip of the gray tabby kitten sprinting across the field during the bottom of the sixth inning of a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals, just before the Cardinals hit a go-ahead grand slam.

“Here’s our little hero, the Rally Cat,” the station said.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina pointed out the frolicking feline as the kitten strolled past a Royals outfielder.

A member of the stadium grounds crew sprinted onto the field to collect the kitten while it made its way onto the warning track near the outfield wall.

The feisty kitten, unwilling to end its chance to mingle with the Major Leaguers, bit and scratched the stadium employee as he attempted to carry it off the field.

Once the kitten was safely removed, Molina hit a grand slam that put the trailing Cardinals in the lead for the remainder of the game.
