David Bobin death: Sky Sports News presenters pay tribute – Daily Mail

Former Sky Sports News presenter David Bobin passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71.

Bobin began his career in journalism as a newspaper journalist in Oxford in the 1960s before moving to Southern Television in the 1970s.

The presenter moved to Sky Sports in 1993 and fronted the channel’s coverage of La Liga and became a regular sports news anchor for the channel.

The former presenter fronted the channel’s Revista de La Liga show – covering Spanish football

Bobin also covered rugby union and golf’s European Tour before his spell as a Sky Sports news presenter. 

Barney Francis, Sky Sports managing director, said: ‘Today (Friday) we learned the sad news that our former colleague David Bobin passed away on Wednesday.

‘David had been part of our family for many years presenting our coverage of a wide number of sports. David was a strong on screen presence with a vast sports knowledge.

‘He was a lovely man, genuine and kind. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.’ 

And current presenters at the channel have flooded in to pay their condolences to the former anchor, lovingly known as ‘Mighty Oak’.

John-Paul Davies posted his tribute on Twitter, which read: ‘Sad to hear David Bobin has passed away.

‘Will always remember his kindness to me when starting out. Thoughts with his family #ripmightyoak’

Fellow Sky Sports news anchors, Natalie Sawyer, Charlie Webster and Simon Thomas, also posted their condolences on their Twitter accounts, with Thomas calling him ‘one of the nicest men in broadcasting’.
