Second Wichita sports store to close this month – Wichita Eagle (blog)

Wichita is about to be down another sports shop.

Last month, Have You Heard? reported that Sports Time Fan Shop at NewMarket Square is closing in late June.

Now, the Ultimate Sports Shop in the Westway Shopping Center at 2491 S. Seneca is closing as well.

“Due to health, I need to retire,” says Diana Freund, who has had the store for 17 years.

She says she’s “sad, but, you know, life goes on.”

Freund says she tried to sell the store.

“The funds out there just aren’t warranted for a sports shop.”

The Ultimate Sports Shop sells items from all NFL teams, 36 colleges and NASCAR.

Most of the store’s merchandise is now 50 percent off. NASCAR diecasts are 45 percent off.

“That’s unheard of,” Freund says.

There will be a sidewalk sale Friday through Sunday with 60 percent off of all clothing.

Freund says her store’s last day in business is June 30.

“I just love our customers. I love our location.”
