Tuesday, April 07, 2015

Oh dear, John Fish used the “P” word. As in, “decline of Patriotism.” And as in, if you oppose my wish to make Boston the site of the 2024 Olympics, you are a member of that less-than-upright-group known as decliners. No, he did not say that. But yes, he did imply it. His exact words were: “Personally, what bothers me a lot is the decline of pride, of patriotism and…

The Top 10 Baseball Films of All Time – TIME

Tuesday, April 07, 2015

All homers to get you ready for Opening Day One of my favorite baseball moments captured in a film won’t be found on this list. That’s partly due to the fact that the movie it appears in, City Slickers, isn’t a baseball film, even if Billy Crystal opts for a Mets cap over a standard ten-gallon. In the scene, the lone woman on a tourist cattle drive comments on how…

Driving hurt no longer a requirement to win NASCAR championship – SB Nation

Monday, April 06, 2015

The tales vast in number seem more folklore than genuine, and yet the authenticity is 100 percent. Each underlining the long held doctrine that NASCAR drivers are tough guys, who will do anything to win even if it’s at the expense of their personal well-being. There was the time Richard Petty raced despite sustaining a broken neck. Or the time Ricky Rudd barrel rolled in a Daytona 500 preliminary…
