There’s been plenty written about what has gone wrong this season for the Houston Astros.

Here’s a short synopsis: It’s the awful hitting. It’s the awful pitching. It’s the overly aggressive base-running. It’s the sloppy defense in the outfield.

Anyone who has watched games this year, knows that –at times, at least – it’s been every single one of those things.

Somehow, a team that was supposed to be a World Series contender now is on pace for another 100-loss season.

If you’re in the, “Don’t worry, it’s still early camp,” it’s time to wake up and look at a calendar. It’s almost June, and the season is nearly 30 percent finished.

How did this happen? We need answers, and it can’t all be explained by saying that a playoff team returning basically all of its pieces from a year ago, simply isn’t good at baseball any more.

There must be more to it than that.

Baseball players – maybe more than any other athletes – are a superstitious bunch. They believe that if they do things just right, the mythical baseball gods will reward them with victories.

That’s why it’s time to explore the other side of that coin.

Browse through the photos above for all the ways the Astros have angered the baseball gods.
