FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas announced its 2016 baseball schedule on Thursday, headlined by 34 games at Baum Stadium and 21 matchups against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.
Arkansas will host Southeastern Conference weekend series against Auburn, Missouri, Florida, Texas A&M and Alabama. Three of those teams – Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M – reached the 2015 NCAA Tournament with Florida advancing to the College World Series. Two of Arkansas’ conference series have been moved to a Thursday through Saturday format to accommodate the league’s national television package. Arkansas will host Florida (April 14-16) at Baum Stadium before traveling to Kentucky (April 21-23) the following week. Additional television coverage will be announced at a later date. SEC play begins on March 18 at South Carolina.
Following a trip to the College World Series last year, the Razorbacks will begin their next quest to Omaha on Feb. 19 in the season opener against Central Michigan. Arkansas will play 19 of its 26 non-conference games at Baum Stadium, including 16 of the first 19 games of the season, and will also play at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Ark. against Louisiana Monroe on Tuesday, April 12.
Highlighting the non-conference slate is the Houston College Classic, a three-day, six-team event hosted by the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Stadium from Feb. 26-28. The Razorbacks will play Rice and Houston, two NCAA Tournament teams, before wrapping the weekend up against Texas Tech.
The Razorbacks will play five NCAA Tournament teams in its non-conference schedule, including home-and-homes against Oklahoma State and Missouri State, two teams that Arkansas defeated last year in the postseason on their way to Omaha. Arkansas will play teams from a total of 12 different conferences this season.
Arkansas returns several standouts from its 2015 College World Series team, including first team All-SEC closer Zach Jackson and SEC All-Freshman team pitcher Keaton McKinney.
