McGill-Toolen quarterback Bubba Thompson has some decisions to make.
Again.
The Auburn baseball commit received his first SEC football offer this week from the University of Tennessee. McGill coach Caleb Ross said the Vols have offered to let the two-sport standout play both in college.

“He told me this morning that the offer hadn’t quite sunk in yet,” Ross said. “He knows a football offer from the University of Tennessee is a big deal. He is definitely excited about it. I’m not sure what happens from here. I think he is just going to wait and see how it all plays out. I do think the success he is having on the football field is allowing him to at least consider playing both in the future.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Thompson committed to play baseball at Auburn in April. However, that was before his first injury-free season in football.
Thompson has been prolific in leading the Class 7A No. 1 Yellow Jackets to an 8-0 record and a No. 1 ranking in both the Alabama Sports Writers Association Top 10 and the AL.com Power 25. He has completed 116 of 156 pass attempts (74 percent) for 1,665 yards and 22 touchdowns. He has been intercepted just twice.
“We knew about his talent,” Ross said. “We knew he had all the tools, but Bubba just had to put it together and, really, he needed to have an injury-free season. He added 10-15 pounds in the off-season. He’s bigger and stronger. We felt really good about the potential of him having a good season for us.”
Thompson visited Knoxville, Tenn., for the Alabama game this past weekend. Linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen called with the official offer Monday.
Thompson also has football offers from Western Kentucky, Central Florida and Troy. He attended camps at Auburn and Alabama this summer and also has garnered interest from Texas Tech and Southern California.
Thompson’s accuracy has been a strong suit this year. He also has 4.4 speed, though he hasn’t needed to use it much so far this year. He has 251 yards rushing and three touchdowns on just 23 carries.
“Bubba doesn’t have a Kadarius Toney-like arm. That’s a freak of nature arm,” Ross said of Blount’s quarterback. “But he has a very strong arm. He can make every throw whether it is 60 yards down field or on the line on an out patter. He has God-given ability and great instincts.
“He’s also the fastest guy on our team. He has been clocked at a 4.4 40 at some camps and that is really without any speed training for football. He might could run a 4.3 if he worked on his running form and the impressive thing he is full speed in two steps.”
Thompson, an outfielder, was an All-State and All-Coastal Alabama first-team baseball selection this spring in leading McGill to the Class 7A semifinals. He hit.469 with 39 runs scored, 19 stolen bases, 11 doubles and eight triples.
McGill baseball coach Tim Becker, who played minor league baseball with Deion Sanders, said Thompson’s speed reminds him of “Prime Time.” The 2017 Major League Baseball Draft also could play a factor in Thompson’s future decisions.
