No. 4 Mississippi State completed its series sweep at Auburn Sunday with a 10-3 in at Plainsman Park.
Nathaniel Lowe led the way for the Bulldogs and finished 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs at the plate. Pitcher Konnor Pilkington (3-1) allowed three hits and struck out four batters for the win on the mound.
“They pitched it so well this weekend,” Auburn head coach Butch Thompson told AuburnTigers.com. “[Pilkington] did a great job for a freshman. We just weren’t able to generate enough offense to ever draw it back close and make them make a move early today.
“I thought through the fifth it was a really good ballgame and we were just hanging in there waiting for a chance to get into it. We just weren’t able to generate enough offense to jar it back close.”
The Bulldogs (37-14-1, 18-9 SEC) scored their first run in the third inning and another in the fourth before going up 4-0 with two runs in the fifth. Auburn (22-30, 8-19) allowed MSU to gain a 7-0 lead in the seventh inning with a bases-loaded walk and a drop on a fly ball.
Kyler Deese had RBIs in the seventh and the ninth innings for the Tigers. Anfernee Grier also batted in a run in the final frame.
Mississippi State outscored Auburn 30-9 in the weekend series with a 4-0 in Game 1 and 16-6 victory in Game 2.
The Tigers return to the diamond Tuesday to host UAB.
