AUBURN –Sunny Golloway is no longer the Auburn baseball coach after school officials announced his termination with cause Sunday afternoon.

Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs announced the move in a university release.

“I regret to announce that earlier today I dismissed Auburn head baseball coach Sunny Golloway with cause,” Jacobs said. “My commitment will always be to provide the best student-athlete experience in the nation, and we will not accept anything less.”

Golloway was 62-50 in two seasons at Auburn after leading Oklahoma to four Super Regional appearances and one trip to the College World Series in his nine years with the Sooners program. In his 19 seasons as a college baseball head coach, Golloway has produced 15 NCAA Regional appearances, 96 All-Conference selection players and 131 Major League Baseball draft picks.

Jacobs did not clarify the nature of the violations that led Auburn to terminate Golloway’s contract with cause but reports surfaced two years ago that the Auburn coach was under internal investigation regarding accusations surrounding conduct and player treatment.

Jacobs announced Sunday that Auburn assistant coach Greg Norton, who played in Major League Baseball from 1996-2009, will be responsible for baseball operations until a new coach is hired.

Auburn is currently are doing fall drills and conducted a public practice session Friday afternoon at Plainsman Park, which Golloway did attend in uniform.

Golloway was hired in 2013 to replace the dismissed John Pawlowski after his five-year tenure at Auburn finished with a 167-126 record and just one NCAA Regional appearance. Last season Auburn finished 36-26 and ended with a 3-seed in the 2015 NCAA Tallahassee Regional.The 36 victories are the second most recorded in a single season by the Auburn program since 2004.
