Baseball fields, stadium eyed in Brentwood – The Union Leader

BRENTWOOD – USA Training Center is eyeing land on Route 125 near the Epping town line for a possible 2,000- to 3,000-seat baseball stadium with four fields for amateur baseball, along with additional retail development.

The proposal is in its early stages, but would provide home fields for the USA Mavericks Baseball Club and Seacoast Mavericks, a collegiate summer baseball team.

The project would also offer more field space that could be rented by other baseball teams in the region.

The site under consideration is a 23-acre parcel of land at 470 Route 125 near the Epping town line.

The Brentwood Planning Board has scheduled a design review hearing on the proposal for May 19 at 7 p.m. at the town offices.

“I think what we’re trying to do is the appropriate thing for that site. There isn’t anything like us around, and it just seems to make sense to go to that location,” said Dave Gleason of Gleason Architects of Stratham.

Gleason is a project leader who is also a coach with a son who plays on a team within the organization.

The USA Mavericks Baseball Club, which serves players ages 9 to 18, currently has an enclosed 12,000-square-foot facility in Newington that’s used year-round for baseball and softball programs.

However, the organization has no outdoor fields of its own and must rent fields.

Gleason described the stadium as something that would be small scale with bleacher-type seating.

The Seacoast Mavericks would also use the new fields when they play during the summer months, Gleason said.

The team competes in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, and its roster includes New England athletes who play college baseball at the Division 1, 2, or 3 levels.

The project may also include other commercial development, including a hotel.

“There’s been a request for a hotel development, and we’re exploring the possibility if that would help support the baseball program,” Gleason said.

Project officials have also been in contact with the town of Epping about the possibility of providing water and sewer services for the property because Brentwood doesn’t have municipal water and sewer.
