Baseball: Nutley’s Anthony Condito signs with the Rutgers University – NorthJersey.com
Senior right fielder Anthony Condito has made quite the name for himself on the baseball diamond, emerging as one of the most feared hitters in the entire state. His remarkable ability to hit for power, average and roam the outfield like a gazelle has made him a legitimate blue-chip prospect.
The Scarlet Knight coaches of Rutgers University fell in love with the kid with the sweet lefty stroke and have called for his talents once he graduates in June.
“He hits,” Nutley head baseball coach Bob Harbison said of Condito. “He is the complete package. He runs, he plays defense and he hits. He plays the right way on and off the field, always picking kids up. Rutgers even encouraged him to play football; they like that mentality and he brings that to baseball. They saw a kid that could hit any pitcher in the state and hit him well.”
Playing for the Scarlet Knights was an easy sell for Condito who wanted to stay local so his family could attend his games.
“Just to have my friends, family and coaches here, it’s a day I will never forget,” Condito said.
“They like my arm strength, they like that I am real hard worker, just everything all around, they like the way I hit and also the way I am as a person outside of baseball too,” Condito said of the Rutgers coaches. “This offseason my main focus is going to be our high school team and getting them as far as I can.”
Condito will be at the heart of Nutley’s lineup next spring and will be the centerpiece to what should be one of the better baseball teams Nutley has had in a long time.
