Big Inning Propels UVa Baseball to 7-2 Win Over Louisville – NBC 29 News

DURHAM, NC (WVIR) -

The Virginia baseball team scored seven runs in the 5th inning, and beat Louisville 7-2 in its final game of the ACC Tournament Saturday night in Durham, NC.

With the win, Cavaliers’ head coach Brian O’Connor moved into first place on the all-time wins list at UVa with 595 career victories, eclipsing Dennis Womack (1981-2003).

The Wahoos recorded six consecutive hits in a scoreless game to lead off the 5th inning, and nine of the first ten batters reached via basehit.

O’Connor says, “”The execution that we had tonight was as good as I’ve seen us all year. Really. That was as impressive of a win as I’ve seen this team have all season, and we’ve had some big ones.”

UVa sophomore first baseman Pavin Smith says, “Hits just come, they’re very contagious. To get one going, and to get confidence going against them, and realizing you can hit him.”

Virginia sophomore starting pitcher Adam Haseley earned the win for after working five innings, allowing a run, two hits, and five walks while striking out four.

The 7th ranked Wahoos (37-20) held the #3 Cardinals (47-12) to a season-low four hits in the victory.

Smith says, “We’re going to take this, and look back at it, and look at the things that we did well, and we’re going to try to ride this momentum into the NCAA Tournament.”

The NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday and Monday.

The 16 regional host sites will be unveiled beginning at 8:30 PM Sunday on the NCAA Baseball’s Twitter account (@NCAACWS) and Facebook page.

The field of 64 for the tournament will be announced at noon Monday on ESPNU.
