TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Fans transported back in time to enjoy a game of baseball, like it was played in the post civil war days.
The vintage festivities kicked off with a game between the White River Baseball Club of Indianapolis and the Vermillion Voles Vintage Baseball Club of Danville.
Players recreated the 1886 baseball game from uniforms, to the rule book.
Afterwards, fans enjoyed the REX game. Organizers say it was a fun-filled evening of baseball from the past and present.
Tim Crumrin, a member of the Vigo County Historical Society and organizer of the event said, “For instance here in Terre Haute, not only do you have the Terre Haute Philly’s, and before that the Terre Haute Tots, but if you went to any of the little towns around here. West Terre Haute, Shelburn, Paris, they would all have 3 or 4 semi-pro baseball teams.”
The game on Saturday, was a test run. Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
