Buccaneers’ contract with Jameis Winston includes no-baseball clause – CBSSports.com

Jameis Winston said he is good enough to play two sports professionally. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft will have to be content quarterbacking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the next four or five years.

TheMMQB.com reported Monday that Winston’s four-year, $24.4 million deal contains a clause the prevents him from playing professional baseball.

A relief pitcher at Florida State, where he was 26-1 on the football field and bagged a national title and Heisman Trophy as a freshman, Winston played two seasons of baseball and was picked in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers, who also drafted Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Winston had seven saves and 31 strikeouts as the backup closer for the Seminoles in 2014.

Winston is eligible again to be drafted in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft June 8-10.

Growing up in Alabama where Bo Jackson starred at Auburn as a two-sport star before playing baseball and football professionally, Winston said in February he always had a dream of doing the same.

With $16.69 million guaranteed from the Buccaneers over the first four years of his first NFL contract, Winston’s field of dreams is 100 yards from endzone to endzone.
