CCU baseball two wins from national title – South Strand news
Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team beat TCU 7-4 on Saturday to advance to the College World Series championship series.
The Chanticleers will face Arizona in a best-off-three series starting Monday for the national title.
Coastal Carolina got on the board first when Tyler Chadwick hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning.
The Chanticleers extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Anthony Marks and Connor Owings singled and scored on a triple by Conway native G.K. Young.
After TCU got on the board with one run in the fourth, Coastal Carolina broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning.
Chadwick led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice by Billy Cooke and a double by Parrett, and then scored on a single by Marks. Parrett then scored on a single by Zach Remillard, and Marks and Remillard scored on a double by Owings to give the Chanticleers a 7-1 lead.
TCU added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-4.
Chadwick homed, doubled, singled, scored two runs and had an RBI; Marks singled twice, scored two runs and had an RBI; Remillard singled twice, scored, stole a base and had an RBI; Owings doubled, singled, scored and had two RBIs; Young tripled, walked and had two RBIs; Parrett doubled and scored; Paez singled and walked; and Kevin Woodall Jr. had two sacrifices.
Coastal Carolina starter Alex Cunningham went 6-1/3 innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out three.
Bobby Holmes came on in relief and got the save.
