Coaches’ Brawl at Youth Baseball Game Caught on Tape – ABC News
A spectator’s video from a Little League baseball game in Cooper City, Florida, captured what can happen when adults lose their cool on the field.
The Cubs and Rays, two under-10 baseball teams playing in the Cooper City Optimist League, were playing against each other Saturday afternoon when an argument erupted near the third-base line.
The video, given to ABC News by the spectator, who requested anonymity, showed one young player standing motionless as the brawl broke out nearby.
The fight occurred between a coach from each team, according to an incident report filed with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
The argument stemmed from one coach switching a player for a faster runner, according to the report.
Words were exchanged between the two men — with one coach saying “F— you” – before one man punched the other “in the left side of his face with a closed fist,” the report said.
“The two then ended up wrestling on the ground at which time other coaches intervened and broke up the fight,” the report said.
Police said in the report that after another witness was interviewed, the coach who threw the punch was read his Miranda rights. Police said eventually, however, the men talked, with the man who threw the punch apologizing and extending his hand to the other coach.
The report said the coach opted not to seek prosecution and agreed to sign a waiver. The police report said no further action was taken.
