CIVIL WAR BASEBALL

OREGON at OREGON STATE

When: 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Goss Stadium, Corvallis

TV: Pac-12 Networks

Records: Oregon (27-20, 9-12 Pac-12), OSU (29-14, 12-9).

Update: The Beavers have won their past three Pac-12 series and are fifth in the conference standings, trailing No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 Arizona State, California and No. 13 USC.

With the Pac-12 likely to receive five postseason bids, the Beavers are in good shape to play in their seventh consecutive NCAA tournament, but they are not a lock.

And the loss of sophomore shortstop Trever Morrison (.319, one HR, 19 RBIs) for the remainder of the regular season due to a hand injury won’t help. Morrison was hit by a pitch on the left hand last week in the Washington series.

Sophomore Caleb Hamilton (.201, three HRs, 15 RBIs), who homered in Saturday’s series clinching win at UW, moves from third base to shortstop.

Tuesday’s Civil War matchup at Goss Stadium will be a nonconference game, as will the May 13th game in Corvallis. Oregon won two of three against OSU in Eugene on April 10-12.

The starting pitchers are expected to be OSU’s Sam Tweedt (6-1, 3.41), a freshman right-hander from South Salem HS, vs. Oregon junior right-hander Josh Graham (2-0, 1.83).

Junior center fielder Jeff Hendrix (.348, four HRs, 25 RBIs) leads the Beavers in hitting, followed by freshman first baseman KJ Harrison (.321, seven HRs, 42 RBIs) and Morrison.

Junior right-hander Andrew Moore (4-2, 1.98 ERA) anchors the starting rotation, with freshman right-hander Mitch Hickey (4-0, 2.18, eight saves) as the primary closer.

Oregon, which won its last two conference series, is seventh in the Pac-12 standings. After being picked to finish second in the Pac-12 preseason coaches’ poll, the Ducks will need a strong finish to keep their postseason hopes intact.

Junior third baseman Mitchell Tolman (.317, two HRs, 30 RBIs), junior left fielder Phil Craig-St. Louis (.284, two HRs, 31 RBIs) and junior first baseman Brandon Cuddy (.279, four HRs, 32 RBIs) have been Oregon’s top hitters this season.

Sophomore left-hander Cole Irvin (2-4, 4.56) has been the Friday night starter. Junior lefty Garrett Cleavinger (3-2, 2.20, seven saves) leads the team out of the bullpen.

Time change: The final game of the OSU-Utah series, originally scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Sunday, has been moved up to a 12:05 p.m. start to accommodate Utah’s travel schedule.
