Cubs have four finalists for 2016 baseball writers’ awards – Chicago Tribune
The Cubs might have to make room for more hardware in the next couple of weeks.
Manager Joe Maddon and three Cubs players were listed as finalists for the 2016 Baseball Writers’ Association of America awards, according to MLB.com.
Maddon is a finalist for manager of the year. The other Cubs finalists are:
Cy Young Award: Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester.
Most Valuable Player: Kris Bryant.
The Cleveland Indians, the team the Cubs defeated in the World Series, also have several nominees in the American League: Corey Kluber (Cy Young); Terry Francona (manager of the year); Tyler Naquin (rookie of the year).
No White Sox players made the finalist lists this year.
Former Cubs manager and current Washington Nationals skipper Dusty Baker is also an NL manager of the year finalist.
The NL manager of the year award will be announced Nov. 15; the NL Cy Young award will be announced on Nov. 16; and the MVP will be announced on Nov. 17.
The awards are based on the regular season, not playoff performances.
