Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Best MLB Pitcher Stats, Picks for May 28 – Bleacher Report

It may be Throwback Thursday, but the MLB slate presents a wealth of young aces to choose from. Between the Condor and the Klubot, there is no shortage of prime arms to pick apart as No. 1 starters.

Despite having just seven matchups, the decisions are still arduous for DraftKings players looking to have a perfect lineup. Before getting started, here’s a look at the best MLB pitcher stats and picks for May 28.

Corey Kluber, Cleveland Indians ($11,600)

A year after winning the American League Cy Young, Corey Kluber got off to a rocky start. But in his last three starts, the Cleveland Indians ace has returned to his previously unstoppable form.

Just how insane have Kluber‘s stats been in the last three games? John Buccigross of ESPN points out his absurd numbers:

Technically, he went 2-0, which actually reduced his fantasy points per game to 41.4 during the three games. Given his recent production and facing James Paxton, a favorable matchup, don’t avoid Kluber just because of his hefty price tag.

Chris Sale, Chicago White Sox ($10,900)

Similar to Kluber, Chris Sale got off to an up-and-down beginning of the season. But those who believed in him over the last three starts were rewarded with phenomenal performances. Of course, his price has also skyrocketed thanks to those stellar starts.

Despite losing in his last outing, Sale still finished with 27.8 fantasy points thanks to 10 strikeouts. Going up against a Baltimore Orioles team that is 17th in runs scored (192) and tied for 26th in walks (112), Sale has a decent matchup and outstanding stuff. For owners who want to save $700, Sale is the starter to target.

A.J. Burnett, Pittsburgh Pirates ($10,100)

Few pitchers in the MLB have reinvented themselves as much as A.J. Burnett. With a 4-1 record, 1.37 ERA and 53 strikeouts already this season, Burnett has proved that he’s still capable of being a top-of-the-line starter.

Four straight wins and just four earned runs allowed over that span has Burnett’s price tag over the $10,000 mark. But with over 17 fantasy points in eight of his nine starts this season, Burnett is another consistent starter worth targeting.

Shelby Miller, Atlanta Braves ($9,300)

It’s still too early to say who the winner of the Shelby Miller-for-Jason Heyward trade is, but the Atlanta Braves certainly didn’t lose. Miller is enjoying the best statistical season of his career in Atlanta and continued that in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 24-year-old starter took a tough-luck loss during that game, but he still came away with his seventh straight quality start. With a shutout in every other start in May, Miller is due for another against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday evening.

Nick Martinez, Texas Rangers ($5,800)

Looking for a low-budget target to clear up room for more big bats? Nick Martinez is your guy for myriad reasons. Not only has Martinez won two straight games and has a 4-0 record this season, but he also has more strikeouts (11) over that stretch than his previous four starts (10).

Tack on the fact that he’s facing a struggling Boston Red Sox lineup that has lost seven of its last 10 games, and Martinez fits the bill of a stud starter. And at just $5,800, he’s the key to unlocking an unbeatable lineup.
