5 Things to Watch:
1. First things first, here are the three highest over/unders for Sunday, provided by OddsShark…
2. Keep an eye on BAL@TEX for rain, but as of Saturday night, everything looks clear for Sunday baseball.
3. The Cardinals are on fire offensively as of late, and Reds pitcher Jon Moscot is coming off the DL to make a spot start. That seems like a recipe for disaster, if you’re looking for another team to stack.
4. Bryce Harper, surprisingly enough, is still “only” $5000 on Draft Kings. He has a 1.217 OPS to start the year, by the way.
5. Masahiro Tanaka vs Hisashi Iwakuma is the first time two former Japan Baseball League have made starts against one another in the Major Leagues. Neat!
Yesterday’s recap:
Stephen Piscotty was our “Must-Start of the Day” and he went yard. Jake Arrieta was our top pitching choice, and he went 8 scoreless innings. Let’s move on to Sunday.
Must-Start of the day: Paul Goldschmidt, ARI: Had a ridiculous 1.082 OPS against LHP last year and gets a juicy matchup against unproven Robbie Erlin.
Deal of the day: Jarred Cosart, MIA – No, he isn’t a great talent, but Cosart gets a matchup at home against a dreadful Braves offense. It’s hard to find a -135 favorite for $5500, right? There aren’t many aces going, so it might be a day to save up at pitcher and spend elsewhere.
Avoid of the day: Anibal Sanchez, DET – Houston is a difficult place for opposing pitchers, and Tigers-Astros has one of the highest projected run totals on the board. Sanchez isn’t necessarily a guy who can limit the damage (4.99 ERA last year) either.
Stack of the day: Chicago Cubs – The Cubs are by far the biggest favorite on the board, and they’ve been one of the best lineups in all of baseball so far this year.
Starting pitchers:
Jon Lester, CHC: He’s the biggest favorite on the board by far, and the Rockies were awful last year against lefties on the road. At $9600, he seems like a safe bet for a win.
Patrick Corbin, ARI: I’m saving on pitchers today. Even if Corbin’s upside is low, the Padres seem highly unlikely to do much damage against him in Petco.
Jarred Cosart, MIA: “Deal of the day”
Catchers:
Welington Castillo, ARI: Better against lefties and can be used in a stack against Erlin and the Padres.
Derek Norris, SD: .810 OPS against LHP last season.
First basemen:
Paul Goldschmidt, ARI: “Must-Start of the day”
Adrian Gonzalez, LAD: Only $3800 and generates nearly all of his power against RHP.
Second basemen:
Scooter Gennett, MIL: Juan Nicasio allowed a .969 OPS to left-handed batters last year, and Gennett is stroking the ball right now.
Jose Altuve, HOU: .971 OPS this year and has plenty of speed on the basepaths.
Third basemen:
Evan Longoria, TB: .960 OPS against LHP last season.
Kris Bryant, CHC: Hard to argue with a Cubs stack against Tyler Chatwood.
Shortstops:
Carlos Correa, HOU: Chalk play at shortstop in a game with one of the highest projected run totals.
Corey Seager, LAD: The big bats for the Dodgers seem to be extra cheap, as Seager could easily outplay his $3500 price tag.
Outfielders:
Adam Jones, BAL: .825 OPS against LHP over the last three seasons and can slide into your stack.
George Springer, HOU: Part of a stack against Sanchez and the Tigers.
Mark Trumbo, BAL: 5 HR already this year and .870 OPS over the last three years against LHP.
Delino DeShields, TEX: Batting leadoff and offers speed in a projected high scoring game.
Bryce Harper, WAS: Tough to pick against him in any matchup, and Charlie Morton doesn’t scare us.
