Daily fantasy baseball hitter matchups

– Brett Lawrie (.857 OPS vs. LHP this year) is a solid option against southpaw Jose Quintana today, but don’t overpay for Mark Canha (.546).

– Trayce Thompson has had only 36 plate appearances against lefthanded pitching this year, but he’s posted a 1.152 OPS in his limited work. Give him a shot against Sean Nolin if he’s back from his elbow injury. If you’re in need of a cheap catcher, you can also try Geovany Soto (.903 OPS vs. LHP this year). Stay away from Adam Eaton (.622) and Melky Cabrera (.595).

– Charlie Morton (.225/.272/.323 vs. righties; .274/.370/.460 vs. lefties) and Kyle Hendricks (.233/.288/.327 vs. righties; .270/.331/.461 vs. lefties) have fairly similar splits against righties and lefties. Keep that in mind if you’re planning on picking any Cubs or Pirates from today’s game for your DFS lineups.

– Chris Davis (.889 OPS), Nolan Reimold (.870), Adam Jones (.816), and Manny Machado (.810) have all hit well against lefties this year. Stack at least a couple of them against Matt Moore.

– Lefties have been lighting up Matt Wisler all year (.342/.449/.618), so if you’re looking for cheap sleepers, try Ben Revere, Ryan Goins, and Justin Smoak if he’s in the lineup.

– Lance McCullers has sawed off lefties this season (.207/.270/.299). Don’t overpay for Prince Fielder, Rougned Odor, Mitch Moreland, Shin-Soo Choo or Joey Gallo.

– Jimmy Nelson has drastically different splits against righties (.195/.273/.283) and lefties (.294/.379/.491). That’s good news for Matt Carpenter, Kolten Wong, Brandon Moss, and Jason Heyward; bad news for Stephen Piscotty and Jhonny Peralta.

– Aaron Hicks and Miguel Sano have OPS’s over .900 against LHP this year, so fire up both against Hector Santiago. Twins teammate Brian Dozier is always a good play against southpaws, too.

– Chris Tillman has allowed 16 of his 18 homers to righties this season. Make a note if you’re looking to add any Rays hitters to your roster.
