Daily Fantasy Baseball Notes: FanDuel, DraftKings hitter sleepers for May 28 – Sporting News

There are nine day games on Saturday’s MLB schedule, including six that start between 4:05 pm ET and 4:10 pm ET, and only three games that start in the early evening. Those in daily fantasy baseball contests better be ready for a slight change in their normal routines.

Fortunately, we’re here to help with a load of splits and BvP numbers to incorporate into your DFS strategy. Based on the numbers, there are plenty of stacking opportunities in the afternoon FanDuel and DraftKings contests, and you can even find a couple of good teams from which to stack in the early evening games. The late games don’t offer as many splits-based stacking opportunities, but you can always load up against Phil Hughes, Jered Weaver or Cesar Vargas.

Of course, there are also some notable fades based on the numbers. Many Detroit players are riskier than usual today, and we’re not huge fans of Baltimore’s lefties, among others. Check out all of our picks for what’s sure to be a busy Saturday.

AFTERNOON GAMES

Red = 1B; Orange = 2B; Yellow = 3BGreen = SSBlue = OF; Purple = C

Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is 13-for-30 with three homers in his career against Rick Porcello, and 1B Edwin Encarnacion is nearly as good (12-for-32, seven extra-base hits). Also, it’s a smaller sample, but 1B Justin Smoak is 7-for-18 with three homers.

You gotta find room for OF Lorenzo Cain in your lineup today against Carlos Rodon. Cain has a .951 OPS vs. LHPs this year after sporting a .959 mark last year.

It’s only a 104.2-inning sample, but Jerad Eickhoff has drastically different splits against lefties (.284/.333/.505) and righties (.178/.221/.319). Keep that in mind when picking Cubs for your lineup today, giving extra consideration to 1B Anthony Rizzo, catcher Miguel Montero, and OF Jason Heyward.

Over 194.1 innings, Jesse Hahn has limited righties to a .197/.290/.270 line, and he’s been even better in Oakland (.189/.288/.246). Detroit is packed with righthanded studs, but they’ll likely be overpriced today.

Danny Salazar has been dominating lefties this year (.158/.202/.253), which is more or less in line with his career numbers (.221/.291/.376). Be careful with 1B Chris Davis, catcher Matt Wieters, and 1B Pedro Alvarez.

Alfredo Simon has been a mess against everyone this year, and lefties have really crushed him since the beginning of last season(.308/.368/.535). Feel free to get creative with your Brewers’ stack, but make sure to include at least one of SS Jonathan Villar, 2B Scooter Gennett, or OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Chase Anderson’s .315/.345/.615 line against righties this year is in line with his career .288/.332/.487 mark. Give bumps in value to SS Zack Cozart, 2B Brandon Phillips, OF Adam Duvall, and 3B Eugenio Suarez.

Your best bet from the Braves against lefty Wei-Yin Chen is OF Jeff Francoeur, which is to say you probably should just avoid the Braves today.

Both SS Didi Gregorius (.834) and 2B Starlin Castro (.830) have had success against lefties this year, so give them extra consideration against Matt Moore. Don’t expect much from catcher Brian McCann, who has just a .546 OPS vs. LHPs this season.

Here’s a “go-figure” stat: OF Carlos Gonzalez is 16-for-50 with four doubles and five homers in his career against Madison Bumgarner. He’s a risky play, but in Colorado, he’s worth the money. Also against type, 2B DJ LeMahieu is just 3-for-26 against the Giants’ ace. Overall, 3B Nolan Arenado, SS Trevor Story, OF Ryan Raburn hit well against lefties, but against Bumgarner, that might not matter. On the flipside, it’s not worth messing with OF Charlie Blackmon and OF Gerardo Parra.

Eddie Butler has allowed a .338/.442/.612 line to lefties in his major league career, and as you might imagine, those numbers are even worse in Colorado. It shapes up to be a big day for OF Denard Span, 2B Joe Panik, 1B Brandon Belt (ankle), and SS Brandon Crawford.

EARLY EVENING GAMES

Since the start of 2014, Juan Nicasio has allowed a .317/.402/.529 line to lefthanded batters. That’s good news for 1B Prince Fielder, OF Nomar Mazara, 1B Mitch Moreland, and 2B Jurickson Profar.

Cardinals OF Stephen Piscotty (1.047 career OPS vs. LHPs) is a must-start against lefties like Gio Gonzalez, and SS Aledmys Diaz has been solid against southpaws throughout his entire professional career. You can also give extra consideration to OF Matt Holliday, OF Randal Grichuk, and even 3B Matt Carpenter, who has a respectable .772 career OPS vs. LHPs.

LATE GAMES

Red = 1B; Orange = 2B; Yellow = 3BGreen = SSBlue = OF; Purple = C

Aside from OF Mike Trout (10-for-31, HR lifetime against Dallas Keuchel), who’s good against everyone, the Angels only have a couple of value plays against lefties. Catcher Geovany Soto (1.024 OPS vs. LHPs this year; .858 for his career) and maybe SS Yunel Escobar (.935 OPS vs. LHPs this year) are worth trying, but even with his improved play against lefties this year, OF Kole Calhoun (seven Ks in 19 career at-bats vs. Keuchel) is a risk.

It’s not surprising that 2B Brian Dozier (1.009 OPS) has been crushing lefties this year or that OF Miguel Sano (.440 OBP) has been getting on base at a high clip against them. Most of Minnesota’s other regular starters have rough numbers against southpaws, but Dozier and Sano are definitely in play against Wade Miley.

Padres OF Melvin Upton Jr. has had a bit of a resurgence this year, but don’t expect much from him against Zack Greinke. Upton is just 5-for-34 with 18 Ks against the D-backs’ ace.
