Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Starting pitcher rankings, advice for May 20 – Sporting News

Our daily fantasy baseball picks continue with starting pitcher rankings, strategy, and advice for Friday’s MLB slate.

Like Clayton Kershaw, whenever Jake Arrieta pitches, he’s head-and-shoulders above everyone (unless Kershaw is also pitching that day, I suppose). But there are other legitimate options today, starting with a pair of Pennsylvania pitchers and a bunch of young studs with major upside. The biggest risk is Mets’ starter Steven Matz, who has been sidelined with a sore elbow, but with a nice matchup against the Brewers, Matz is worth investing in again.

Daily fantasy baseball picks

Splurge: Jake Arrieta, CHC at SF. It’s almost too easy to pick Arrieta, but that’s kind of the point. Sure, he’s expensive ($12,200 on FanDuel; $12,800 on DraftKings), but with a matchup against Jake Peavy, you have to feel good about his chances at a win on top of his sterling peripherals. Aaron Nola ($9,000 on FD; $11,000 on DK) is another expensive pitcher who appears to be worth the risk against the lowly Braves.

Sell: Corey Kluber, CLE at BOS. Kluber has struggled in his past two starts, and the Red Sox lead the league in OPS against righties. When everything points to an ace-level pitcher being overpriced ($9,600 on FD; $9,000 on DK), he usually comes out and throws a gem (at least whenever I fade him), but it’s pretty clear that Kluber carries a lot of red flags tonight.

Save: Aaron Sanchez, TOR at MIN. Sanchez is death to righthanded hitters (.168/.241/.211), and virtually all of Minnesota’s big bats are righties. As long as Sanchez can avoid free passes, he should pitch well, pick up a win, and be worth every penny of his $8,500 FD price tag and $8,000 DK price tag.
