Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Starting pitcher rankings, advice for May 28 – Sporting News
Our daily fantasy baseball picks continue with starting pitcher rankings, strategy, and advice for Saturday’s MLB slate.
The pitching is very deep today, whether you’re looking to pay up for an ace or go cheap. It reminds me a lot of trying to select a QB in NFL DFS most weeks. Difference is, the mid-tier pitchers are much more volatile than those mid-tier QBs, who can still give you big points in a bad game (and rarely get yanked during a rough start).

On days like this, I try to find ways to afford an ace. It’s fine to fade one or two aces on a more shallow slate for pitching because your odds of being right are better, but when so many talented arms are on the mound, it’s increasingly difficult to fade them all and still keep up with the crowd.
It’s even tougher today with so many value picks (and potential land mines). With that in mind, let’s take a look at today’s full starting pitcher rankings and picks. As usual, we’ll also have hitter picks and the DFS Playbook from Fantasy Alarm to help you find the best values on FanDuel and DraftKings. Good luck!
Daily fantasy baseball picks
Splurge: Madison Bumgarner, Giants at Rockies. I’m trying to be contrarian and going with Bumgarner ($10,500 on FD; $10,800 on DK) at Coors Field today. He’s got the talent to overcome that matchup — he’s posted more than 50 FD points in five of his last six starts, with one against the Rockies in San Francisco — and could be a differentiator in tournaments. If that’s too risky for you, Zack Greinke ($11,000 on FD; $11,100 on DK) against the Padres will be a fine, albeit popular, choice.
Sell: Yu Darvish, Rangers vs. Pirates. Excited to see Darvish ($8,700 on FD; $9,700 on DK) back from Tommy John surgery, but I’ll give him a start or two before taking him in DFS. Pitch count, post-TJS control questions and a talented Pirates lineup make him too risky today.

Save: Marcus Stroman, Blue Jays vs. Red Sox. Maybe it’s my stubbornness taking over after that Bumgarner pick, but I think Stroman ($7,600 on FD; $6,000 on DK) is too cheap to pass up, especially in DK, despite facing the Red Sox. If that matchup scares you (it should), you can go with a “safer” value like Dallas Keuchel ($7,600 on FD; $6,300 on DK) against the Angels.
