Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Starting pitcher rankings, strategy for May 5 – Sporting News

Our daily fantasy baseball picks continue with starting pitcher rankings and advice for Thursday’s MLB slate.

If Wednesday was the day of value (and elite) pitchers, Thursday will be the day of disasters on the mound. There are going to be some terrible pitching performances, awesome hitter stats and high daily fantasy baseball scores as a result, so plan accordingly.

I’ll be paying up for pitching today and finding value hitters in great matchups. So, let’s take a look at today’s starting pitcher rankings and picks. As usual, we’ll also have daily fantasy baseball hitter picks and the DFS Playbook from Fantasy Alarm to help you find the best values on FanDuel and DraftKings. Good luck!

Daily fantasy baseball picks

Splurge: Jacob deGrom, Mets at Padres. With few true aces going tonight, don’t be scared to pay up for deGrom ($10,800 on FD; $11,400 on DK) against the lowly Padres. He’s a near-must-have in cash games. If you’re playing all-day contests, Jaime Garcia ($8,400 on FD; $9,700 on DK) is also worth the price against the Phillies and a great value on FanDuel.

Sell: Masahiro Tanaka, Yankees at Orioles. You can be contrarian by taking Tanaka ($9,400 on FD; $9,300 on DK) in Baltimore, but I’d rather find a way to get up to deGrom if I’m already paying this much for a starter.

Save: Joe Ross, Nationals at Kyle Hendricks, Cubs. It sucks that two of the best value pitchers today, Ross ($7,500 on FD; $7,000 on DK) and Hendricks ($7,200 on FD; $8,000 on DK) are facing each other. I’d side with Hendricks and the Cubs offense if I had to pick, but why not create two different tournament lineups with one starting for each?
