Fans’ reaction:’That’s not the baseball way’ – Boston Herald

Baseball fans in the Hub were shocked yesterday to learn of news reports suggesting a Red Sox staffer was caught using an Apple Watch to steal signs during a recent series with the New York Yankees. Here’s what they had to say when we asked them if the team should be punished.

“I love the Red Sox, but they should be playing with integrity. I probably would want them to be punished if it were the other way around. Whoever was behind it should be the one to face the most repercussions. They should get to the bottom of who was at fault for it.” — Stephanie Starbard, 23, of Lynn

“I don’t know what the precedent is on this so I couldn’t answer. I don’t approve of it. I’d rather win without cheating. … Clearly, it didn’t help.” — Nicholas Deane, 18, of Charlotte, N.C.

“I would say yes. … The Patriots got caught reading the sideline signals and they lost a draft pick over it, so probably the same.” — Scott Schevis, 52, of Peabody

“That’s a tough one. I don’t know what the rules are. Maybe they should knock them a few games? I think it’s a shame. That’s not the baseball way. It should be good old-fashioned baseball — but now people are not honest.” — Sue McGurrin, 52, of Hanover
