Week 16 Starting Pitching Streaming Options

Each of the streaming options below with the exception of Andrew Cashner is available in over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Baseball Leagues. Cashner is currently roughly 56 percent owned in Major Fantasy Baseball Leagues.

Monday

Jorge De La Rosa and the Colorado Rockies have a Monday night road game against the Chicago Cubs. On the road De La Rosa as a 1.91 ERA with 31 strikeouts, 16 walks and 3 bombs in 37.1 innings pitched. Good 3.73 FIP and 3.73 xFIP with a 1.10 WHIP and .222 BABIP. The Cubs at home slash a .261/.348/.384/.732 line at home against lefties with a 25 percent strikeout rate, .152 ISO, .328 BABIP, wOBA of .325 and wRC+ of 100. A team that whiffs 25 percent against a pitcher averaging nearly 8 strikeouts per nine innings pitched is a nice thing to see.

Nate Karns and the Tampa Bay Rays play host to the Detroit Tigers in a Monday evening matchup. Over his past 4 starts Karns has a 4.13 ERA with 26 strikeouts, 6 walks and 2 bombs over 24 innings pitched. Average 4.21 ERA, middle of the road 1.33 WHIP with a much better 2.91 FIP and very manageable 3.41 xFIP. The Tigers slash a road line of .270, .329/.427/.756 with a 20 percent strikeout rate, .162 ISO, .313 BABIP, wOBA of .325 and wRC+ of 106. Karns may not get a win but it’s hard to pass on a guy averaging nearly 10 strikeouts per nine innings.

Tuesday

Wade Miley and the Boston Red Sox host the White Sox in a Tuesday night matchup. Over his last 4 starts Miley has an ERA of 3.60 with 21 strikeouts, 9 walks and 2 bombs over 25 innings pitched. Good 1.11 WHIP and good 3.50 FIP and xFIP of 3.69. Better than average .246 BABIP over the past 4 starts. The White Sox slash a road line of .245/.294/.358/.652 with a strikeout rate of 22 percent, .149 ISO, .304 BABIP, wOBA of .315 and wRC+ of 98. Miley has pitched well lately, the White Sox are the worst hitting team in baseball….it just makes sense.

Mike Fiers and the Milwaukee Brewers are on the road for a Tuesday night game against the San Francisco Giants. Over his past 4 starts Fiers has a 3.24 ERA with 23 strikeouts, 9 walks and 4 bombs in 25 innings pitched. Very good 1.01 WHIP and .212 BABIP with a 4.62 FIP and 4.16 xFIP. The Giants slash a .266/.323/.385/.708 home line with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .162 ISO, .306 BABIP, wOBA of .321 and wRC+ of 112. It’s hard to pass on a pitcher who averages nearly 10 strikeouts per nine innings.

Wednesday

Jimmy Nelson and the Milwaukee Brewers have a Wednesday afternoon game on the road against the Giants. Over his past 4 starts Nelson has posted a 2.08 ERA with 24 strikeouts, 9 walks and 2 bombs over 26 innings pitched. Below average 1.27 WHIP and about average .297 BABIP and decent 3.49 FIP and xFIP of 3.61. The Giants slash a .266/.323/.385/.708 home line with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .162 ISO, .306 BABIP, wOBA of .321 and wRC+ of 112. Nelson may not get a win but he should rack up a pile of strikeouts.

Chris Tillman and the Baltimore Orioles play host to the Atlanta Braves in a Wednesday night contest. Over his past 4 starts Tillman has posted a 1.75 ERA with 22 strikeouts, 6 walks and zero bombs in 25.2 innings pitched. Excellent 1.05 WHIP and very good .292 BABIP with a very low 2.17 FIP and very good 3.36 xFIP. The Braves slash a road line of .257/.315/.367/.682 with a 24 percent strikeout rate, .145 ISO, .277 BABIP, wOBA of .289 and wRC+ of 80. Tillman has been sensational lately and its hard not to believe this won’t continue against the Braves on Wednesday.

Thursday

Andrew Cashner and the San Diego Padres are in New York to take on the Mets in a Thursday afternoon matchup. Over his last 3 starts Cashner has posted a 2.61 ERA with 13 strikeouts, 6 walks and zero bombs in 20.2 innings pitched. Outstanding 0.82 WHIP and .190 BABIP with a 2.82 FIP and 4.04 xFIP. The Mets are hopeless offensively as their .235/.305/.375/.681 slash line indicates and their 24 percent strikeout rate, .108 ISO, .284 BABIP, wOBA of .283 and wRC+ of 83 suggest. Cashner should and probably will put up great numbers on Thursday.

Phil Hughes and the Minnesota Twins have a Thursday night road game against the Seattle Mariners. Over his past 4 starts Hughes has posted a 2.49 ERA with 11 strikeouts, 2 walks and 4 bombs in 25.1 innings pitched. Below average 1.26 WHIP and average .299 BABIP with a 4.48 FIP and xFIP of 4.47.  The Mariners slash a home line of .248/.311/.389/.700 with a 24 percent strikeout rate, .129 ISO, .263 BABIP with a wOBA of .276 and wRC+ of 72. Hughes faces Felix Hernandez so he may not get a win but he might put up decent numbers straight across the board on Wednesday.

Week 16 Waiver Wire Starting Pitching

Tom Koehler Miami Marlins: Koehler has a Wednesday evening start at home against the Washington Nationals. Over his past 4 starts Koehler has an ERA of 1.44 with 16 strikeouts, 9 walks and 1 bomb over 25 innings pitched. Terrific 1.05 WHIP and .205 BABIP with a 3.62 FIP and 4.44 xFIP. The Nationals slash a road line of .258/.357/.402/.729 with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .163 ISO, .287 BABIP, wOBA of .318 and wRC+ of 99. Koehler might be a good for strikeouts, WHIP and ERA on Wednesday.

Robbie Ray Arizona Diamondbacks: Ray has a Monday evening road start against the Seattle Mariners. Over his past 4 starts Ray has posted a 3.86 ERA on 22 strikeouts, 6 walks and zero bombs over 23.1 innings pitched. Average 1.29 WHIP and .333 BABIP with a 1.95 FIP and xFIP of 3.86. The Mariners slash a .248/.293/.381/.674 line against lefties with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .109 ISO, .301 BABIP, wOBA of .290 and a wRC+ of 81. This one is all about strikeouts and everything else is the cherry on top of the sundae.

R.A. Dickey Toronto Blue Jays: Dickey and the Blue Jays host the Philadelphia Phillies in a Wednesday evening contest. Over the past 4 starts Dickey has a 3.33 ERA with 17 strikeouts, 6 walks and 2 bombs over 27 innings pitched. Decent 1.11 WHIP, .272 BABIP with a 3.77 FIP and xFIP of 4.30. On the road the Phillies slash a .249/.299/.358/.657 line with a strikeout rate of 19 percent, .125 ISO, .310 BABIP, .310 wOBA and wRC+ of 94. It may not be pretty but Dickey should be good for a win, decent WHIP and probably 6 or more strikeouts.

John Danks Chicago White Sox: Danks and the White Sox are on the road for a Monday evening contest with the Red Sox. Over his past 4 starts Danks has an ERA of 2.25 with 18 strikeouts, 7 walks and zero bombs. Below average 1.21 WHIP, average .301 BABIP with a 2.44 FIP and xFIP of 4.47. Boston doesn’t do well against lefties slashing a .232/.300/.366/.665 line with a 22 percent strikeout rate, .145 ISO, .297 BABIP, wOBA of .321 and wRC+ of 98. Danks currently has pitched 12.2 consecutive innings of scoreless ball so he might be another option for you to consider on Monday and possibly on Saturday at home  against  the Yankees.

Week 16 Position Player Waiver Wire Options

Each of the position players listed below is available in over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Baseball Leagues.

Yan Gomes C Cleveland Indians: Over the past 7 days Gomes has slashed a .250/.333/.458/.791 line with 1 bomb, 5 RBI and 2 runs scored. Gomes has a average .273 BABIP and above average .214 ISO, wOBA of 331 and wRC+ of 114. Gomes is starting to heat up so grab him while you can!

Billy Butler 1B Oakland Athletics: Over the past 7 days Butler has slashed a .174/.269/.435/.704 line with 2 bombs, 3 RBI and 4 runs scored. Terrible .167 BABIP but awesome .269 ISO, wOBA of .322 and wRC+ of 108. If you can handle the batting average killing you and need bombs Butler might be your man this week.

Rougned Odor 2B Texas Rangers: Over his past 7 games Odor has slashed a .406/.412/.844/1.256 line with 2 bombs, 7 RBI and 7 runs scored. High .393 BABIP and incredible .438 ISO with a .506 wOBA and wRC+ of 236. Odor is hot as a firecracker and you’d better grab him before he either cools down or is no longer sitting on your waiver wire.

Trevor Plouffe 3B Minnesota Twins: Over the past 7 days Plouffe has slashed a .185/.241/.556/.797 line with 3 bombs, 8 RBI and 4 runs scored. Putrid .105 BABIP but monster .370 ISO with a wOBA of .339 and wRC+ of 116. As with Butler if you can survive the low batting average Plouffe can and does deliver bombs and RBI.

Jose Iglesias SS Detroit Tigers: Over the past 7 days Iglesias has slashed a .455/.478/.773/1.251 line with 1 bomb, 4 RBI, 1 stolen base and 7 runs scored. Super .409 BABIP and .280 ISO with a wOBA of .473 and 209 wRC+. Iglesias is on an incredible roll and might be a good roster add this week.

Alex Rios OF Kansas City Royals: Over the past 7 days Rios has slashed a .440/.481/.600/1.081 line with 1 RBI, 1 stolen base and 6 runs scored. Excellent .444 BABIP and great .219 ISO with a wOBA of .465 and wRC+ of 205. Rios looks like he’s back from injury and that is a good thing.

Randal Grichuk OF St Louis Cardinals: Over the past 7 days Grichuk has slashed a .345/.411/.724/1.165 line with 3 bombs, 10 RBI and 4 runs scored. Excellent .467 BABIP and .379 ISO with a wOBA of .486 and a wRC+ of 219. Grichuk has earned an everyday spot with the Cardinals and maybe a spot on your roster this week.

Good luck this week Fantasy Baseball owner!
