Former baseball prospect arrested in triple homicide – CBS News

CORONA, Calif. — Former professional baseball player Brandon Willie Martin was arrested Saturday in connection with a shooting rampage that left three dead, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Police say Martin, 22, formerly a highly-regarded prospect in the Tampa Rays’ minor league system, shot and killed his father, 64-year-old Michael Martin, his uncle, 51-year-old Ricky Lee Anderson, and 62-year-old Barry Swanson, an ADT alarm company installer.

All three men were shot at about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, at a home in Corona, Calif. Police have not said if they know what caused the altercation.

Martin allegedly stole Swanson’s pickup truck following the rampage and was arrested following a chase on Sept. 18.

Martin — a first round draft pick in 2011 — last played shortstop professionally in 2013, for the Bowling Green Hot Rods, a class A Tampa Bay Rays farm club. He was released on March 20, 2015, according to MILB.com, the official site of Minor League Baseball.
