Former pro Randy Wells opens Belleville baseball center – Washington Times

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Former professional baseball player Randy Wells has opened a baseball academy in southern Illinois and is coaching varsity baseball at a Catholic high school in Belleville.

Wells was a pitcher from 2008 to 2012. He played for the Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago Cubs. Wells tells the Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/1Jyt1G0 ) that he opened K3 Academy so that people in southern Illinoisans could have access to baseball instruction year-round instead of driving to nearby St. Louis, Missouri. The facility has batting cages, an indoor playing field and portable pitching mounds.

Wells says he wants the academy to “be a place for people to come to better their brand of baseball.”

Wells was hired in July to coach at Althoff High School.
