MURFREESBORO – A pair of Midstate seniors were named 2015 Mr. Baseball award recipients by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday morning at Middle Tennessee State’s Reese Smith Field.

Clarksville’s Donny Everett and Goodpasture’s Drew Hall were among the five players honored at the inaugural Mr. Baseball awards, presented to the top player in each of the TSSAA’s five high school baseball classifications.

“I think it’s a great time to have an award like this because we have a whole bunch of outstanding baseball players,” said Everett, a Vanderbilt signee. “I think it’s needed.”

Everett, the two-time District 10-AAA Pitcher of the Year and a 2014 All-Midstate selection, compiled a 9-0 record for Clarksville in 2015, posting an 0.92 ERA while striking out 118 batters in 61 innings of work. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound right-hander also hit .423 with two home runs and 34 RBI for the Wildcats.

“It’s a great honor, but I couldn’t be here without my teammates helping me out for the last four years,” Everett said. “My coaches putting up with me at practice, helping me out and working extra with me. It’s just a great honor, a great award.”

Everett beat out a pair of fellow Vanderbilt signees — Ravenwood’s Bryce Denton and Farragut’s Patrick Raby — for the award in Class AAA.

“We know we’re going to have a great class at Vanderbilt next year, especially with the homegrown guys,” Everett said. “It’s going to be really great playing with these guys, and having them here at the ceremony was great.”

Hall, a three-year starting pitcher at Goodpasture, edged Forrest’s Alex Brewer and Knoxville-Grace’s Chandler Adkins for the award in Class A.

“There are all these great baseball players out here, and I was surprised I was even in the running,” Hall said. “Then to win it, it’s just a huge honor.”

Hall posted a 10-1 record with an 0.49 ERA in 2015, and the 6-foot, 175-pound right-hander fanned 125 in 71 innings pitched. He has tallied 30 wins in his career.

“I got my first start when I was a freshman, but I probably wasn’t in the rotation until I was a sophomore,” he said. “Sophomore year I was the No. 2, and that was for (former coach Richie) Estep. He was a huge mentor for me.”

Knoxville Catholic’s Kole Cottam (Class AA), Evangelical Christian School’s Sadler Goodwin (DII-A) and Christian Brothers’ Walker Grisanti (DII-AA) also won Mr. Baseball awards on Tuesday.
