The two were among a group playing the old national pasttime at Meadow Farm Museum — Crump Park off Mountain Rd. in Glen Allen. In that era, the batter was known as the ‘striker’ and a ball caught on the first bounce was considered an out.

Happy 150th, Richmond. Your first amateur teams formed in the spring and summer of 1866, according to “Baseball and Richmond,” a book written by W. Harrison Daniel, a former history professor at the University of Richmond, and Scott P. Mayer, who’s on the staff at St. Christopher’s.
