Major League Baseball on Wednesday announced the 25 teams that will play in the Reviving Baseball In Inner Cities (RBI) World Series, set for next month in Cincinnati.
Two of the teams that made the field call Harrisburg home.
Harrisburg’s RBI baseball team and Harrisburg’s RBI softball team will play in the World Series, on tap for August 3-16. According to a release from Major League Baseball, the baseball championship game will be played in Great American Ball Park, home of the Cincinnati Reds, while the softball title game will be played at the Miami University (Ohio) Softball Complex.
The championship games in both Senior Divisions will be streamed live on MLB.com.
Teams from 19 cities across the United States and the Dominican Republic will compete in the World Series, and both of Harrisburg’s squads have been here before.
The softball team will be making its sixth appearance in a row, while the baseball qualified for the World Series for the fifth time in the last six years. This is the first year Cincinnati will host the event.
Harrisburg’s baseball team clinched a spot in the Series last Sunday compliments of a 4-2 victory over Philadelphia in the Mid-Atlantic Regional finale. In that game, under coach Robert Martin, CD East’s Quentin Heckard earned the win in relief, while Central Dauphin’s Bryson Allen had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs, and Susquehanna Twp.’s Jacoby Pate scored twice.
Meanwhile, Chambersburg’s Leah Hunt, the reigning Mid-Penn Commonwealth MVP, helped Harrisburg’s softball team advance to the Mid-Atlantic title game with two hits and four RBI’s in a win over Philadelphia last Saturday.
