Harter to join DWU baseball team – Daily Republic

Harter cited being closer to home and a better fit at DWU as reasons for making the move. He’s also already familiar with DWU coach John Greicar as the Tigers recruited Harter during high school.

“I just feel like I might get to play a little more there and I just like what coach Greicar does as a baseball coach,” Harter said.

The 5-foot-8 Harter expects to play in the middle infield, but added “I will play wherever I can. I can play outfield and I might pitch a little bit, too. So wherever they put me, I will play.”

Harter was an all-state selection in baseball, football and basketball during high school. He was named to the Class B all-state baseball team last season. He averaged .333, finished with seven RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Harter also helped the Winner/Colome high school baseball team win the state title last May.

In 2015, he hit .533 with 14 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 14 games for the Winner/Colome Royals. As a pitcher, he also had a 3-2 record with a 2.86 ERA and 43 strikeouts on a team that finished 12-2 and advanced to the regional tournament. A nominee for Class B Legion Player of the Year, he has been named all-state twice and all-conference three straight years.

He later played on the Winner/Colome amateur baseball team. The Pheasants played at the state amateur tournament at Cadwell Park in Mitchell last August. Harter was named to the all-tournament team.

Harter plans on majoring in history education at DWU.
