Kelly Ripa hits on Kyle Schwarber, then hits him with a baseball – Chicago Tribune
Kelly Ripa had a good connection with Kyle Schwarber — until she threw him a ball.
The Cubs catcher/outfielder visited “Live with Kelly” Thursday morning to discuss the team’s World Series victory with Ripa and guest co-host Alex Rodriguez. Ripa and Schwarber hit it off immediately.
He gave her a Cubs hat, and she complimented his dimple.
“I gotta tell you, you have the cutest dimple,” Ripa said. “I just want to, like, I want to see, like, what we can fit in your dimple. So cute.”
But then Ripa, Schwarber and Rodriguez, who reminded viewers that he won a World Series with the New York Yankees in 2009, went outside to play some ball.
Ripa, wearing head and chest gear, tossed a few balls to Schwarber. One hit him on the arm, just minutes after he described the months-long rehab he recently underwent after suffering a knee injury early in the season.
Schwarber, 23, ended up hitting off Ripa. Rodriguez, who has 696 career home runs, didn’t fare as well with her pitches.
Ripa asked Rodriguez about his hitting abilities earlier in the show.
“You’re known for swinging your bat. You’re a good hitter, is what I’m saying,” Ripa said to awkward laughter from the audience as she rephrased the question to Rodriguez, who has been romantically linked to several celebrities.
“I wasn’t such a good hitter last year. That’s why I’m sitting here with you,” said Rodriguez, who retired in August.
“Live with Kelly” airs 9 a.m. weekdays on WLS-Ch. 7.
