Oregon State tallied 14 hits and five walks in a 13-6 victory over Portland at Joe Etzel Field on Tuesday.

The win moved the Beavers to 16-2 heading into their three-game series in Berkeley against California from Thursday to Saturday.

Left fielder Christian Donahue went 3 for 6 with the team’s lone triple and centerfielder Kyle Nobach went 2 for 4 with a team-high three runs batted in.  Freshman second baseman Nick Madrigal extended his hit streak to 12 games and upped his batting average to .405 with a 2 for 3 night.

Oregon State pitched by committee to save its starting arms for its series against the Golden Bears. Freshman Bryce Fehmel improved to 5-0, throwing three innings in his first career start and allowing three hits and one earned run. He struck out five hitters.

Scotland Church pitched the final three innings and earned his first save of the year. He hit two batters but did not allow a hit.

Mid 7th: Oregon State 13, Portland 6. Beavers add one run when Portland shortstop Michael Forgione made a throwing error on a fielder’s choice, allowing Nick Madrigal to score from first base.

End 6th: Oregon State 12, Portland 6. The Pilots added three, starting with a bases loaded single that chased Luke Heimlich from the game and then a wild pitch from John Pomeroy.

Mid 6th: Oregon State 12, Portland 3. Cadyn Grenier broke out of a cold spell, hitting a two-out, two-RBI double to the warning track in left-center field.

End 5th: Oregon State 10, Portland 3. Pilots centerfielder Caleb Whalen hit a two-run homer deep to left field off Luke Heimlich, who bounced back to strikeout the next two hitters.

Mid 5th: Oregon State 10, Portland 1. Christian Donahue continued his hot streak, hitting a triple down the first base line to score Michael Gretler. Nick Madrigal followed up with a sacrifice bunt to score Donahue.

End 4th: Oregon State 8, Portland 1. 1-2-3 inning from Luke Heimlich on only seven pitches.

Mid 4th: Oregon State 8, Portland 1. Jack Anderson drove in another run with a second two-out double. He then scored from second on an infield single by Kyle Nobach.

End 3rd: Oregon State 6, Portland 1. Fehmel struck out Ryan Barr with runners on first and third but the pitch went through Michael Gretler’s legs and a run scored. Fehmel has thrown 68 pitches through three innings.

Mid 3rd: Oregon State 6, Portland 0. Quick 1-2-3 inning for Morrison, Gretler and Grenier against a new Portland pitcher – Cameron Richman.

End 2nd: Oregon State 6, Portland 0. Single by Kevin Farley and throwing error by Morrison advances him to second. No runs score. Four strikeouts for Fehmel.

Mid: 2nd: Oregon State 6, Portland 0. All six runs have come with two outs. KJ Harrison doubled to score one and the Beavers added two more on a throwing error by the pitcher after a Joe Gillette grounder.
