Local sports: Hadley and Nothampton reach Cal Ripken baseball 9U state semifinals – GazetteNET

Northampton went 4-0 in pool play at the Cal Ripken nine-and-under state tournament over the weekend in Hadley, qualifying for the semifinals as the top seed.

On Saturday, Northampton beat Frontier 7-2 and Milford 12-6.

Luke McGrath went 4 for 4 with a triple in an 18-0 win over Hudson on Sunday.

Jordan Peters had a triple and a single in a 12-2 win over Northbridge, while Jack Sherman hit a triple and a double Sunday.

Hadley earned the No. 2 seed and advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 record.

Ben Feeney and Jack Dyjach both went 3 for 3 in a 12-2 win over Frontier on Sunday.

Hadley also beat Milford 5-4 on Sunday and Uxbridge 11-1 on Saturday.

The loss was 4-3 to Marlboro on Saturday.

Northampton will play Uxbridge at 2 p.m. Monday in the semifinals, while Hadley plays Marlboro at 2:30 p.m. in the other semifinal.

Both games are at Hadley Elementary School.

The semifinal winners play at 6 p.m. Monday in the championship game.

Frontier went 0-3 in pool play over the weekend and did not qualify for the semifinals.

Thomas Unkles had two hits, and Harry LaFlamme had one hit in a 12-2 loss to Hadley on Sunday.

Frontier lost 7-2 to Northampton and 16-0 to Uxbridge on Saturday.

11U State Tournament — Hadley went 3-0 in pool play over the weekend in Sutton, beating Nipmuc 8-7, Sutton 13-8 and Uxbridge 10-0 in four innings.

Cole Boivert went 5 for 8 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored.

He had the game-winning hit against Nipmuc.

Beau Elson was 2 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored against Sutton.

Matthew Hanscom drove in three runs against Uxbridge.

Northampton went 2-1 in pool play, beating Northbridge 7-6 on Saturday and Milford 12-2 in four innings Sunday.

The loss was 10-5 on Saturday to Hudson.

Ben Sledzieski pitched all four innings Sunday, striking out five.

Northampton stole 17 bases against Milford.

The winning run against Nortbridge came on a walk-off walk.

Hadley will play Northampton at 5:15 p.m. Monday in Sutton in a state semifinal.

10U New England Regionals — Northampton went 2-1 in pool play to advance to the single-elimination tournament as a No. 2 seed in Uxbridge.

Northampton beat Cranston (Rhode Island) 11-5 on Saturday and host Uxbridge 11-3 on Sunday.

Hudson Fulcher-Melendy pitched six innings for the win against Uxbridge, while Colin Larson and Will Hogan each went 3 for 4.

Northampton’s only loss came against the defending New England champions Norwalk (Connecticut) 1-0.

Larson started the game and threw three scoreless innings.

James Elliot pitched the rest of the game and struck out five.

Northampton will play Andy Valley (Maine) on Tuesday at 5:30 in Uxbridge.

The semifinals are Wenesday and the finals Thursday.

American Legion

Northampton 1, Greenfield 0; Pittsfield 4, Northampton 0 — Post 28 staved off elimination Saturday at home before its season ended at Clapp Park on Sunday.

Colby Lander threw a no-hitter against Greenfield, striking out three and walking three. He went 1 for 3 at the plate.

Joe Afflitto went 2 for 2 with an RBI against Greenfield.

Kevin Banas, Will O’Connor and Pat Grygorcewicz also had hits agianst Greenfield.

Northampton (19-3) only mustered four hits against Pittsfield.

Banas, O’Connor, Christian Smiarowski and Andrew Serio had one each.

It was the final legion game for Afflitto, Smiarowski, Lander, Cleveland and Hunter Salem.

Little League All-Stars

Bridgewater 12, Belchertown 4; Bridgewater 4, Belchertown 3 — A sweep ended Belchertown’s Intermediate season in the state championship series Saturday in Sudbury.

Owen Raines led off Game 1 with a solo home run and pitched five innings, striking out three.

Austin Endelos pitched Game 2 for Belchertown (17-5), striking out five with one walk.

Chris Ingram went 2 for 3 in Game 2, while Mike Bode tied the game at 3 with a single in the top of the seventh.

Bridgewater then hit a walk-off homer to end it.

Easthampton 14, Leominster American 4 — Gabe Rapoza went 5 for 5 with a double and three RBIs to help Easthampton advance in the 9-10 sectional tournament.

Easthampton scored eight runs in the fifth inning.

Zakery Thibodeau went 3 for 5 with three runs and an RBI.

Evan O’Malley hit a three-run double, and Chris Walaszek hit a two-run singole.

Winter Roske and Luke Haynes were 3 for 5 with an RBI each, while Ana Growhoski went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Northampton 5, Wilbraham 4 (9) — Jack Diggins scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning off a ball in play from Jackson Heath that the Wilbraham defender couldn’t handle Sunday in the New England Youth Sports Association championship game at Arcanum Field.

It’s Northampton’s fourth consecutive championship.

Owen Shelffo had three hits and scored for Northampton, while Noah Brink had to RBIs.

Jake Brittain picked up the win in relief, while Jake Matanski started the game.

Softball

Easthampton 23, Quaboag 0 — Ashley Cortis and McKenzie McCarthy both hit home runs to help the Easthampton 10U Eliminators win Game 1 of the sectional championship series in Brookfield on Sunday.

Jocelyn Mettey Struck out 14 in a two-hit shutout.

Kaelin Damon and Summer Collins collected three hits in three trips to the plate each.

It’s the first sectional win for Easthampton at the U10 level.

Game 2 is 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wilby Field in Easthampton.

Bay State Games

Girls basketball — The West team won the bronze medal, beating the Northeast 68-58 on Sunday.

Hampshire’s Katy O’Connor scored a team-high 19 points to lead the team.

Chelsea Moussette, her point guard at Hampshire, made two 3-pointers and scored eight points.

The team lost to Metro 57-40 in the semifinals Sunday after taking down Coastal 62-48 and losing 52-49 to Central on Saturday.

O’Connor also had 18 in the win over Coastal.

Hampshire’s Katelyn Pickunka also played on the team, scoring two points against Coastal.
