A mod for Fallout 4 has added the jersey of famed Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz to the game, and Major League Baseball wants it stopped.
According to the Boston Globe, Texas resident Richie Branson created the mod to make the game feel more authentic. Branson told the Globe while many of Boston’s most recognizable geographic and architectural pieces are included in the game, the lack of Red Sox jerseys was “the only thing missing,” from Fallout 4.
Major League Baseball, on the other hand, sees the mod as infringement on its rights as a property holder. “We plan to enforce those rights,” a spokesperson told the Globe.
Branson explained his reasoning for modifying the game to add Ortiz’s jersey was because “Ortiz is a heavy hitter, man.”
“He’s big, he’s massive, so I figured he’d be the right one to survive the apocalypse.”
One of the main locations in the game, Diamond City, is built in the remains of what was once Fenway Park. Fenway has been home to the Boston Red Sox since 1912, making the ballpark the oldest in the United States. Fallout 4 is filled with locations familiar to Bostonians, but it’s also filled with terror. We highlighted Fallout 4’s 7 most terrifying vault stories, but none of them include Bill Buckner’s 1986 between-the-legs biff that went on to cost the Sox the series.
