CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Massillon high school baseball coach has taken a leave of absence after Cleveland police arrested him and accused him of possessing cocaine and pills.

Neall French, 31, of Independence, was arrested about 9:40 p.m. March 9 at State Road and Tampa Avenue, according to a Cleveland police report.

Second District vice detectives arrested French in his 2008 BMW 528i with a plastic baggie of cocaine, a bottle containing pills and cocaine, an undisclosed amount of crack and $159 in cash.

French has not been charged.

French took a leave of absence from his job as varsity baseball coach at Washington High School Monday, according to Indeonline.

Massillon City Schools officials could not be reached for comment.

French is also listed as the director of the Midwest Pelicans, an Independence-based youth baseball team.

French, a 2002 graduate of St. Ignatius High School, played professional baseball in the New York Yankees minor league organization. His career ended in 2010, in AA, according to his biography on the Pelicans’ website.
