MERIDIAN — The Meridian U12 70’s baseball team is headed to the Cal Ripken World Series.
The team, made up of boys under the age of 12, went undefeated at the Pacific Northwest Regional Baseball Tournament in Eugene this weekend, earning the right to represent not only Idaho, but the Pacific Northwest, at the Cal Ripken World Series in Maryland later this month.
The series calls itself “the home to the best 12-year-old baseball players in the world.”

Meridian finished group play undefeated and claimed the No. 1 seed with wins against South Oregon, 8-0, East Boise, 6-3, and Olympia, Washington, 2-1, in 11 thrilling innings.
In the semi-finals, Meridian again faced South Oregon, who fought their way back through the consolation bracket.
However, South Oregon was again defeated by Meridian, 11-1.
In the championship game, neither team was able to produce a run and remained scoreless until Oregon’s Willamette Valley scored three runs at the bottom of the fifth inning.
At the top of the sixth, Meridian scored six runs to outlast Willamette Valley 6-3 to claim the Pacific Northwest Regional Baseball championship.
Meridian will travel to Aberdeen, Maryland later this month to face a few of the 10 champions from across the United States and eight international teams from Australia, Canada, Republic of Korea, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and New Zealand.
