The Minnesota Twins organization confirms a baseball player signed to their minor league team was killed in a car accident in Venezuela early Saturday morning.
22-year-old Yorman Landa had been signed with the Twins since 2010 when he was 16, according to the team’s website.
Landa had been on the Twins’ 40-man roster, before signing to a minor-league contract earlier this week.
“The Minnesota Twins are deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of Yorman Landa early this morning in Venezuela,” said Derek Falvey, executive vice president of the Minnesota Twins. “On behalf of the entire baseball community, we send our sincerest condolences to the Landa family as well as Yorman’s many friends, coaches and teammates.”
Details into the circumstances surrounding the accident have not yet been released.
