Miss Texas’ special talent is probably not throwing a baseball – Yahoo Sports
Throwing out a first pitch before a baseball game can be a harrowing experience. And let’s face it, the risks far outweigh the rewards. A great first pitch is met with either indifference, or a smattering of applause from the fans. A bad first pitch will be mocked forever.
This one falls into the latter category. Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Oakland Athletics, Miss Texas Daniella Rodriguez threw out the first pitch for the Houston Astros. It did not go well.
While standing on the grass in front of the mound, Rodriguez displayed a strong leg kick and a solid throwing motion, but held the ball just a bit too long. It traveled roughly 40 feet before hitting the ground to the far right of home plate.

For what it’s worth, Rodriguez didn’t let it get to her. She threw her hands up in the air to acknowledge she messed up, but was able to laugh it off. And as the announcers point out in the video, she doesn’t exactly have the best footwear for the task at hand.
As far as awful first pitches go, we’re going to give this one a solid “8.” It’s not great, but it’s certainly not the worst we’ve ever seen. Off the top of our heads, Mariah Carey’s was so much worse, and no one is going to top 50 Cent’s attempt any time soon.
And as 50 Cent proved, your first pitch doesn’t have to be great in order for someone to turn it into a pretty awesome baseball card. We wonder if Miss Texas will make the cut the next time Topps releases next year’s batch.
