NC State, Duke set for ACC baseball tournament – News & Observer

Fifth-seeded N.C. State plays in No. 1 seeded Miami’s group in this week’s ACC baseball tournament, the league announced Sunday. Duke will play Tuesday against Wake Forest. North Carolina missed the tournament after losing its weekend series with the Wolfpack.

Pairings and game times were set for the championship, which gets underway Tuesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Miami (43-10, 21-7) earned the No. 1 overall seed and will head up Pool A. The Hurricanes will be joined by fourth-seeded Florida State (34-19, 16-10) and fifth-seeded N.C. State (34-18, 15-13), while No. 8 Boston College (31-19, 13-15) and No. 9 Georgia Tech (35-20, 13-16) will play Tuesday in the first round with the winner joining the pool.

Louisville (46-10, 22-8) earned the No. 2 seed and will lead Pool B with No. 3 Virginia (36-18, 19-11) and No. 6 Clemson (38-18, 16-14). The fourth spot of the pool will go to either No. 7 Duke (33-21, 14-15) or No. 10 Wake Forest (32-23, 13-17).

Under the pool-play format, each team will play one game against each of the other three opponents in its pool Wednesday through Saturday. The two teams with the best records within their respective pools will advance to the title game on Sunday, with the winner earning the ACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

The tournament starts Tuesday with two first-round games. The Blue Devils and Deacons will play at 11 a.m., followed by the Eagles and Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m.

Florida State and N.C. State will open play on Wednesday at 11 a.m., followed by Miami versus the Boston College-Georgia Tech winner at 3 p.m., and Louisville versus the Duke-Wake Forest winner at 7 p.m.

The two pool winners will play Sunday at noon for the Championship.
