No. 5 Oregon State baseball won 7-3 over No. 25 Arizona State on Sunday, sweeping the Pac-12 opening series in Corvallis.

The Beavers jumped on top 2-0 in the first, knocking out ASU starter Reagan Todd after two-thirds of an inning. ASU scored in the fourth, but Oregon State put up three more in the fifth en route to the win, improving to 15-2. ASU fell to 13-6.

In the opener Friday, Oregon State took a 2-0 lead in the fourth and led 3-2 after seven. Colby Woodmansee hit a solo homer in the ninth and had the tying run on base with one out but could not push another across, ending ASU’s eight-game win streak.

On Saturday, the Beavers bolted to a 6-0 lead in the first with ASU starter Eli Lingos unable to retire any batters. They went on to build a 12-0 lead and win 12-2.

ASU returns home against San Diego on Tuesday then hosts Utah in a Pac-12 series starting Thursday.

UA softball wins rivalry series 

No. 18 Arizona softball put up two runs in the seventh inning Saturday for a 5-4, series-clinching win at No. 21 ASU.

The Wildcats also won 2-0 on Friday at Farrington Stadium. Game 3 was Sunday night.

On Saturday, UA’s Mandie Perez hit a two-out homer in the seventh off Breanna Macha for her career high fourth hit of the game. ASU had gone ahead 4-3 in the fourth on Chelsea Gonzales’ eighth home run, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit.

A two-run, seventh-inning homer also was the difference Friday, breaking up a pitching duel between ASU’s Kelsey Kessler and UA’s Danielle O’Toole. Freshman Joelle Krist had the big hit for the Wildcats after a fielding error by ASU second baseman Nikki Girard.

Kessler allowed three hits and no earned runs while striking out five Wildcats. She took her third loss while allowing one or fewer earned runs.

UA won softball and women’s gymnastics points in the Territorial Cup Series, cutting ASU’s lead to two (7.5-5.5). Points still are to be decided in baseball, men’s and women’s outdoor track, men’s and women’s golf, tennis and beach volleyball.

The Sun Devils are at home against Texas Tech in a non-conference series starting Thursday.
