Northwestern loses to Iowa in Big Ten baseball championship game – Chicago Tribune
Northwestern came up one victory short of its first NCAA baseball tournament berth in 60 years, losing 13-4 to Iowa in Sunday’s Big Ten championship game in Bloomington, Ind.
The Wildcats had reached the final by defeating Maryland 6-5 on Sunday morning. Northwestern never has won the Big Ten tournament and last qualified for the NCAAs in 1957.
The surprising run to the championship game began with wins over Michigan and Minnesota. The Wildcats finished 27-30 overall and won their last five Big Ten games to finish 13-11 and qualify for the conference tournament.
UIC qualified for the NCAA tournament on Saturday by winning the Horizon League tournament.
Illinois State missed its chance to qualify Sunday, losing 10-6 to Dallas Baptist in the Missouri Valley title game.
