Pelosi will move to ‘get rid of’ Democrat’s impeachment resolution – Washington Examiner
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, no fan of a Trump impeachment inquiry, said she is unsure how Democratic lawmakers will vote on articles of impeachment against President Trump that are set for a vote.
But the California Democrat is eager to dispatch with the resolution “expeditiously,” she told reporters Wednesday.
“I don’t know what we’ll do but we’ll deal with it on the floor,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi does not back the impeachment measure, introduced by Rep. Al Green of Texas.
Dozens of Democrats have called for impeachment but she has steered them toward investigations and oversight of Trump by six committees.
“With all the respect in the world to Mr. Green, he’s a very prayerful person who cares about our Constitution and our country, we have six committees who are working on following the facts in terms of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and the rest,” Pelosi told reporters. “That is the serious path we are on.”
Pelosi would not tell reporters whether she would allow a vote on the impeachment resolution. As an alternative, she could call for the motion to bring it up to be tabled.
Pelosi argued Democrats should focus on a legislative agenda in order to thwart Trump, who she said is trying to paint Democrats as radical liberals.
“We all know the argument that can be made against us in terms of our philosophy and our priorities and the rest,” Pelosi said.
