Plans for baseball stadium in Brentwood are abandoned – The Union Leader

BRENTWOOD — The owner of the Seacoast Mavericks collegiate summer baseball team and USA Mavericks Baseball Club is abandoning plans for a baseball stadium and field complex in Brentwood in favor of a new location on the Seacoast.

Dave Hoyt said he plans to move ahead with the project on about 100 acres of land off the Spaulding Turnpike, but declined to identify the community where the property is located. He said it will likely become public within the next month.

Earlier this year, Hoyt and other project officials proposed building a stadium for the Mavericks and additional baseball fields for the USA Mavericks Baseball Club on 23 acres on Route 125 near the Epping town line.

The plan, which also included the possibility of building a hotel, went before the Brentwood Planning Board in May for a preliminary discussion.

“As much as that was a favorable site for what we would like to have done, there were way too many obstacles. We started our due diligence and as we got deeper and deeper and got closer to making a decision to pull the trigger on moving forward, we found out it would be way too much time,” said Hoyt, who once played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins.

Hoyt said he’s been looking for the past four years to find a permanent home for the Seacoast Mavericks, which now rents field space at Leary Field in Portsmouth.

The proposed baseball complex would provide outdoor home fields for the Seacoast Mavericks and the USA Mavericks Baseball Club.

According to Hoyt, the complex would feature a stadium that would seat 2,000 to 3,000 spectators including an area where people could sit on blankets, five fields and a sixth field that would have an inflatable cover to create an indoor facility during the winter months.

All of the fields would be made of artificial turf, with the exception of the hitting and pitching areas of the field in the stadium.

In addition to its baseball and softball programs, Hoyt said the fields could be rented out for other sports like soccer, field hockey and lacrosse.

The complex could also serve as a venue for entertainment, Hoyt said.

Hoyt said he hopes to have the project approved by next summer to break ground in October.

“It will be a regional site and we’re very excited about it,” he said.
