Ben Hauser, who will be a senior at Sun Prairie, will further his education and play college baseball while planning to serve his country by attending the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Hauser announced recently via Twitter that he orally committed to be a cadet and play baseball for the Air Force.
Hauser, an excellent hitter, pitches and plays other positions, including outfield. He helped lead Sun Prairie to the WIAA Division 1 state baseball tournament quarterfinals this spring. He was named to the second team of the all-Big Eight Conference baseball team as an outfielder.
Baraboo’s Tom Ginther, who pitches, also announced via Twitter that he orally committed to play baseball at North Dakota State University.
Hauser and Ginther have played in the GRB Academy program and with the GRB Rays, according to the GRB Academy site.
Hauser, who also has played football and basketball for Sun Prairie, is scheduled to have surgery on his left (non-throwing) arm and is scheduled to miss the football and basketball seasons, according to the Sun Prairie Star.
Air Force plays in the Mountain West Conference. North Dakota State is in the Summit League.
Baraboo baseball coach Steve Considine told the Baraboo News Republic that Ginther was “really impressed with the coaching staff and the facilities and it was what he was looking for in a school. It was fun to see how excited and passionate he was about that school (North Dakota State).”
