Prospect suspended 30 games for brawl – CBSSports.com

Last week we alerted you to a minor league brawl between the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers) and Dayton Dragons (Reds) of the Low Class-A Midwest League. During the brawl, Whitecaps outfielder Eduardo Jimenez threw a baseball into the scrum that struck Dragons pitcher Jesse Stallings.

As you can imagine, Jimenez was suspended for using a ball as a weapon during the brawl. According to Baseball America‘s Vince Lara-Cinisomo, Jimenez has been banned 30 days:

The Midwest League does not announce suspensions, but a team official confirmed the suspension as 30 days, not 30 games as had been reported elsewhere.

Several other players were suspended for their roles in the brawl, though their bans were not nearly as long as Jimenez’s.

Jimenez throwing a baseball at an opposing player — something pitchers do routinely when the hitter is in the box, but not during a brawl — is somewhat reminiscent of former big leaguer Delmon Young, who was suspended 50 games for throwing a bat at a minor-league umpire years ago.
